Philip Reiner is the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of the Institute for Security and Technology, a global non-profit that serves as the bridge between technologists and national security policy makers. The mission of IST is to develop solutions to the world's most challenging emerging security threats with a technology nexus. He holds positions as an Advisory Board Member for the Artificial Intelligence Security Initiative at UC Berkeley’s Center for Long Term Cybersecurity, is an Affiliate at Stanford’s Center for International Security and Cooperation, and is also a Member of the IST Board of Directors. He previously served in the Obama White House as the Senior Director for South Asia on the National Security Council staff; as a civil servant in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy at the Pentagon; and worked for a number of years at Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems, in their Electronic Warfare, Remote Sensing, and Vision Systems units. He has a Master’s degree in International Relations and Economics from Johns Hopkins SAIS, and a Bachelors in Comparative Religions & History from UCSB. He has taught cybersecurity at UC Berkeley, and routinely guest lectures on emerging international security risks at both UC Berkeley and Stanford University. He lives in Oakland with his wife and is the proud father of two daughters.
